The iconic Ibrox landmark that is Edmiston House is set to be bulldozed in the new year.

For almost 50 years the tacky looking eyesore has taken on mystic properties to the gullible after it’s heyday in the seventies as The Rangers Social Club.

In it’s day, alongside Rangers Pools, it was generating more money for the company that ran the football team as gates yo-yoed at Ibrox depending on domestic success.

After being used as a Karaoke venue by Donald Findlay it’s most recent use was as a call centre by Dave Murray but for most of the last decade it has been mothballed despite talk of grand plans such as club museum, ticket office, fan café, heliport and intergalactic communications centre.

Yesterday an application was submitted to Glasgow city council to turn it into rubble, another worthless brownfield site in an unattractive area of the city.

Revealing exciting redevelopment plans at the 2018 AGM The Sun reported chief executive Stewart Robertson saying:

In relation to the improvement of facilities, there’s been a lot going on over the last 18 months in terms of backroom work. We’re now at the stage where we’ve now got a framework which we can take forward.

In fact, I was discussing at a boardroom meeting yesterday, we’re looking at the reconstitution of Edmiston House for example. We need to look at better conference facilities, a flexible space there, we’re looking at better retail space and a museum. Hopefully over the next 18 months you’ll see a real upgrade of the facilities outside the stadium.”

Edmiston House has previously been used as security in emergency loans from Close Brothers.
