After Celtic’s recent 4-0 win over Livingston Scott Brown joked that Jeremie Frimpong’s shooting was pathetic. Yesterday the hoops skipper was the first to congratulate the teenager for opening the scoring against Hibs.

Frimpong set a high standard from the moment that he made his debut against Partick Thistle in the League Cup and has been raising the bar ever since.

Wingers dread being put up against the Dutch teenager. Yesterday Lennon’s confidence in Frimpong meant that he was handed two roles as a wing-back and didn’t disappoint with another powerful, driving display.

After the win over Livi Brown joked that ‘He’s a great wee lad but his shooting is pathetic, everything else about his game has been incredible.’

Leaving nothing to chance, Frimpong scored his first goal at Celtic Park yesterday then told The Sun:

I have been practising finishing in training and practice makes perfect. We won the final last week and I got a red card but I got over it. The manager told me not to worry about the sending-off and said I played well. It’s always good when you get the manager on side.

Before the League Cup Final there were questions about how he would cope with the direct running of £7m winger Ryan Kent. Frimpong thrived pushing the former Liverpool star further back.

With four more matches coming up in the next fortnight the 19-year-old looks fitter and fresher than everyone else in the squad and will be one of the first names on Neil Lennon’s team-sheet.
