Scott Sinclair has left Celtic’s training camp to hold transfer talks with Preston North End, according to the Daily Record.

Celtic activated the 12 month option on his contract last May but the former Aston Villa man has barely featured under Neil Lennon.

Mikey Johnston, Moi Elyounoussi and James Forrest have all been preferred in the wide left role with Sinclair making just two substitute appearances in the SPFL.

The Daily Record reports:

Scott Sinclair was on the verge of severing ties with Celtic last night after being given permission to open signing talks with Premier League promotion chasers Preston.

Record Sport understands Sinclair was making his way back to the UK from Celtic’s winter training camp in Dubai to hold discussions with Deepdale boss Alex Neil as the winger prepares to call time on a trophy-laden three-and-a-half years in Glasgow.

Celtic paid Aston Villa £3.5m for Sinclair in August 2016 and got an instant reward when he came off the bench to score the winner in Brendan Rodgers’ opening SPFL match away to Hearts.

For 18 months he was a key element of the Celtic side that swept to the Double Treble but over the last year he has slipped out of contention.

In August there were reports of interest from Derby County and Preston but despite being left out of the Celtic squad that flew to Cluj for the Champions League third round qualifier no deal was completed.

Sinclair is believed to be one of the highest paid players at Celtic with just a token transfer fee likely to be involved if he leaves with five months left on his contract.
