Michael Stewart delivered a few home truths including telling Kenny MacIntyre that he was talking utter garbage when the BBC Scotland host claimed that there was a witch-hunt against Alfredo Morelos.

Two red cards over a 15 day spell in December provided a reminder to clubs outside of Scotland that the hot headed Colombian was more bother than his goals are worth and delivered a hammer blow to the campaign to paint Morelos as a lovely misunderstood guy.

Radio Scotland have been keen to push that line to their listeners while publishers update their readers with every detail of the incredible charity work that the Ibrox striker performs in his native Colombia.

With a £10m shortfall in seeing this season out the sale of Morelos was the most obvious solution to the cash problems at Ibrox but with no sign of interest Radio Scotland and others have gone into overdrive with the victim line supported by claims of a witch-hunt.

Last night Stewart tore those claims apart as he sat in the BBC Scotland studio with MacIntyre and Derek Ferguson.

The former Hearts midfielder said: “What I don’t like is how Rangers as a club continually try to deflect and change the narrative around things to become a victimhood narrative.”

Host Kenny McIntyre then chipped in with the witch-hunt line popular among Ibrox apologists backed up by Ferguson.

Stewart hit back with:  “There is a narrative that has come about from Rangers that they’ve tried to develop that there is a witch-hunt, that he is treated differently (Are you having none of that? MacIntyre interrupted). It is utter garbage Kenny. This is a guy who has been in Scottish football for over two and a half years now, the fact that he has picked up almost 40 yellow cards and seven red cards that would sort of indicate that that’s the issue that is spoken about.”

Of course no one at the BBC will name who is behind the so-called with-hunt being waged against Morelos.

Later in the show, at 27 minutes 40 seconds, Stewart brought up the name of the man directing media operations from inside Ibrox: “Rangers as a club have created an environment in which they are the victims. They have a guy in charge of their media who is not a club employee. It is in his benefit to start fires so that he can put them out.

“You think of the number of the number of statements that Rangers have released over the period of time he has been at the club.”

At this point MacIntyre jumped in with ‘he’s not here to defend himself’ (he doesn’t need to with so many others on message).

Stewart continued: “What I’m telling you Kenny is that I’m putting forward the statements that have been put out, for example the one that says Alfredo has been singled out for special attention. The facts don’t back that up.”
