Neil Lennon would welcome another summit of managers, referees and SFA officials but only if there is clarity on disciplinary issues and the haphazard role of the Compliance Officer.

A year ago, as Hibs manager Lennon was involved in a meeting at McDiarmid Park that was apparently aimed at providing clarity over a number of issues.

The main message to come out was that VAR would resolve most issues but a year later there is no sign of VAR being introduced despite it coming to Scotland next month in the Europa League and being installed at Hampden for Euro 2020.

Ryan Christie’s suspension and the 19 day wait for news of Alfredo Morelos’ third yellow card has brought the issues into focus with a report this morning claiming that the SPFL has demanded a meeting with the SFA for an explanation of the role of the Compliance Officer.

Celtic TV covered today’s media conference with the Celtic manager.

7 minutes 40 seconds

Question) What is your take on the current Disciplinary process regarding reported talks between SPFL and SFA?

It seems to come down to individual viewpoints on individual situations. There seems to be an inconsistency with that so it’s caused a lot of controversy and fury over the years. It’s baffled and bewildered me at times. The recent one for me is the Ryan Christie case so I think that there has to be some sort of clarity for managers and players

Question) Do you think it was better when you were playing to the current system that we have?

Probably, yeah

Question) Too much confusion?

I think that there is too much confusion

Question) You went to the meeting with top flight managers last year, did you find that meeting productive, would you welcome anther meeting?

I’d welcome another meeting, the main crux of the last one was about VAR, we were all in favour of VAR rather than the disciplinary side of it. The disciplinary side of it was the one that caused most debate so there has to be a lot more clarity in terms of what the punishment is and what the punishment is for and how strict the punishment will be.

No action was taken by the Compliance Officer after Alfredo Morelos stamped and struck Chris Jullien in the chest during the September Glasgow derby or after he raked his studs down the Celtic defender’s Achilles during the League Cup final.
