Neil Lennon has warned Celtic fans not to expect a marquee signing on the final day of the transfer window.

Craig Bellamy and Robbie Keane both arrived on the final day of the January window but it’s a decade since the Spurs striker attracted 5,000 fans to head to Kerrydale Street on a cold January evening.

These days signings are more likely to fall into the project category with supporters searching You Tube for details about signing targets.

During the summer Celtic brought in Fraser Forster, Moi Elyounoussi and Moritz Bauer on loan deals from England but other than that trio the permanent signings would only have been known to the most eagle-eyed of fans.

Lennon has the job of managing expectations while delivering results against a background of expectation with Celtic sitting with more than £30m in their bank account.

Discussing the prospects for the next few days the Celtic boss told the Daily Record:

You have to keep calm. You have to not get yourself into a tizzy and panic and take a step away and have a look and see what’s required.

Fans want the marquee signing in the car park but sometimes that’s not? realistic. We’d all love that but sometimes it can go the other way.

It can upset the dynamic in the dressing room and that’s something we are mindful of. It’s harder to do that kind of signing now. The way the money is elsewhere it’s very difficult.

We’re working away but if we don’t bring anyone else in then I’ll be happy with what we have. The squad has good depth and quality.

Have the Celtic board fully back Neil Lennon in the transfer window?
