Neil Lennon has told Craig Gordon that he is too important to let go.

The keeper is out of contract at the end of this season and hoping to play his way back into the Scotland where he has been overtaken by keepers from Portsmouth and Sunderland as back up to David Marshall.

Gordon finished 2018 as Celtic’s first choice keeper but the 12 months that followed saw him drop behind Scott Bain then Fraser Forster as first choice.

Hearts have been making noises about taking the 37-year-old to Tynecastle but with less than 48 hours to go in the transfer window it seems unlikely that the keeper will be on the move.

Lennon told The Sun:

Craig wants to play obviously with the Euros in mind, but he’s such an important part of the squad here that we don’t want to let him go.

Gordon joined Celtic on a free transfer in 2014 after more than two years out of football after suffering an injury at Sunderland.

Chelsea were strongly linked with the keeper in January 2017 but he opted to stay with Celtic, signing a new deal that runs until June 2020.
