Sutton trolls spinless SFA and throws in Game Over in Leith excuse

|

Chris Sutton has slammed the SFA and Ibrox apologists after two days of Leigh Griffiths bashing.

The Celtic striker has been under attack for his goal celebration at Kilmarnock followed by throwing some tape into a bin.

Kris Boyd was the target for the goal celebration with the Sky Sports pundit flapping under pressure as he reacted to Griffiths’ return to form.

Rediscovering his form from 2015-2017 would be a major boost for Celtic’s title hopes at a time when Steven Gerrard is unable to bring in any players with speculation linking Alfredo Morelos with a new club on an almost daily basis.

The Compliance Officer hasn’t been tempted into taking any action on the midweek match but with recent events in mind Sutton isn’t ruling out belated action from the SFA.

In the Daily Record he writes:

Let’s not go overboard, when it comes to offences, chucking a bit of tape at a fan is hardly Eric Cantona’s kung fu kick. But it was still wrong. How will the spineless SFA deal with it? That’s anyone’s guess. They’ll probably wait three weeks and then tell us he was booked after the game.

It’s just another silly incident that seems to be par for the course in Scottish football this season. There’s no need for it and we can also do without clubs constantly making excuses for the actions of their players.

There’s nothing wrong with admitting it was out of line and promising not to do it again. Perhaps we’ll get a statement saying in Leith, throwing tape is just a signal the match is over. Nothing would surprise us any more.

Sutton will be on duty for BT Sport for Celtic’s matches away to St Johnstone, Hamilton and Motherwell.
