There are three stumbling blocks to Victor Wanyama joining Celtic on loan.

Spurs are looking for a loan fee of £1.5m with the guarantee of a summer transfer for £8m while the player has a contract running till next summer that pays out £70,000 per week.

Neil Lennon has been asked about Wanyama a couple of times but while the Celtic boss is keen, he has emphasised that the sums involved don’t add up.

At the age of 28 the Kenyan should be in his prime but injury issues have put clubs off despite interest from England, Turkey the USA and Celtic.

The Mirror reports:

Victor Wanyama is a wanted man – but the midfielder’s chances of escaping Tottenham are fading because of the demands of his club. Spurs have told the Kenyan international that he can leave for any side willing to pay the £8million asking price.

Daniel Levy is also willing to allow Wanyama to leave on loan – but is demanding that a £1.5million fee is attached to any deal with an obligation to buy in the summer.

Wanyama’s former club Celtic want to take the 28-year-old back to Glasgow, while Lazio have joined Galatasaray in lodging an enquiry for the powerful anchor-man. Wanyama earns around £70,000-a-week at Tottenham and his hopes of a move to the MLS have been dashed by his wage demands.

Celtic sold Wanyama to Southampton for £12m in the summer of 2013 after two outstanding seasons highlighted by his displays in the 2012 Champions League.

The signing of Ismaila Soro would appear to have reduced Celtic’s interest in the Spurs midfielder but yesterday Lennon dropped strong hints that there could be business completed late today.
