The excuses are wearing thin for Steven Gerrard after his side crashed to a 2-1 defeat away to Kilmarnock.
Ibrox fans went into the new year convinced that their side was actually one point ahead of Celtic after winning the Glasgow derby but on Valentine’s Day their favourites will be 10 points behind a Celtic side racing towards 9-in-a-row.
A run of seven victories through December helped to blank out losing in the final of the League Cup to Celtic, the Glasgow derby success at Celtic Park was confirmation that the result at Hampden was a miscarriage of justice.
After losing to Hearts on January 26 Ianis Hagi was brought in to get over that blip but a draw at home to Aberdeen sent supporters into a panic. Being level with Hibs after 80 minutes was a glimpse into the abyss but Hagi came up with a late goal to keep the gap at seven points.
Tonight’s defeat highlights the lack of experience and bottle in the squad that Gerrard has built over three transfer windows. He has around 10 players that he can trust, beyond that are Greg Stewart, Jordan Jones, Andy Halliday and Flo Kamberi.
Gerrard has managed to deflect attention from defeat onto his players, after tonight punters are finally questioning the man who followed Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha. If the current run continues Graeme Murty could be in line for a return to front line duties.
Instantly blamed Warburton/Caixinha For poor results and were sacked. Yet somehow, Gerrard gets excuses and people buy it. Been found out big time. It’s rangers. You don’t win the league in two seasons you’re out the door. Doesn’t matter who it is. Needs to be questioned

We’ve been saying we will get there for 3 years now. There’s a serious problem with mentality and standards at Rangers. Gerrard struggling to get anything out of his players when up against it. Celtic rolling over teams at will. 1 forward 2 back.

Gerrard showing how much of an amateur manager he is. Sure he’s learning but at out expense. It’s costing us time and time again. It ain’t good enuf. The honeymoon period was over long ago. This is a joke. Well done Celtic on another league title.

Gerrard looking in before looking out, no plan b, predictable patterns which every team have sussed out, can’t mix it up and go direct because the side is small, Morelos being refereed on reputation and overall debatable refereeing decisions are going the other way at the moment

Gerrard needs to change his formation. He has no backup strategy and when Tav and Barasic were out, you didn’t have any attacking full backs to replace them. Why did he bring in an “excellent prospect” number 10, when he doesn’t play a formation with a number 10?
