Huddersfield Town are ready to join Hearts in a bid to sign Craig Gordon in the summer.

The keeper will be out of contract in June, bringing an end to his six year hoops career that has revived his career after three years out of football following a serious injury at Sunderland.

Hearts were rumoured to be making an offer in January but that failed to materialise with the Edinburgh side still stuck in bottom place in the SPFL Premiership.

Gordon was Celtic’s first choice keeper up until December 2018 but after being replaced by Scott Bain he is now third choice behind Bain and Fraser Forster.

Today the Daily Record reports:

Huddersfield Town are considering a summer move for Celtic keeper Craig Gordon. The English Championship outfit were keen to do a deal in January but the Hoops wouldn’t let him leave because of their domestic and Europa League commitments.

The 37-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, is also attracting interest from his former club, Hearts, who were also rebuffed for a loan move in the last window. The Terriers currently have two keepers on-loan, Kamil Grabara from Liverpool and Everton’s Jonas Lossl, and they are both scheduled to go back to their parent clubs at the end of the campaign.

Gordon, who will be in the Celtic squad for their Europa League return with Copenhagen on Thursday, is on the radar of Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley and remains an option for the end of the season to compete with Joel Coleman.

Bain was out injured for the last four months of 2019 which ruled out Celtic allowing Gordon to leave in January.

Making Forster’s move permanent will be a transfer priority but with two years left to run on his Southampton contract Celtic will be stretched to compete with those terms and a transfer fee.

Celtic currently have Ross Doohan and Conor Hazard on loan at Ayr United and Dundee.
