Chris Sutton knew what he was doing when he reached out to Twitter after Braga were knocked out of the Europa Cup.

The Portuguese side could have played all night without scoring, losing out to a Ryan Kent breakaway to spark scenes of mass hysteria from Steven Gerrard and his coaching staff.

All of a sudden the dropped points against Hearts, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone were forgotten about with the world put to right.

Sutton’s honesty has made him a regular target on-line, a role he enjoys as the anger of a decade of misery takes hold.

Before the League Cup Final in December he described James Tavernier as a serial loser which brought a predictable response. After handing a penalty kick to Alfredo Morelos Tav picked up a losers’ medal to add to the Scottish Cup one that he picked up in 2016 against Hibs.

After the euphoria of last night finally gives way Gerrard has to take his side to Tynecastle on Saturday- looking for their first win in three attempts against the side at the bottom of the SPFL Premiership.
