David Turnbull makes his first top team appearance of the season with a place on the Motherwell bench tonight against St Mirren.

A year ago the midfielder was in outstanding form as he made a genuine impact on the Motherwell side attracting the attention of a number of clubs.

In June Motherwell announced that they had agreed a transfer fee with Celtic but that move kicked off a highly unlikely chain of events.

Turnbull’s agents used the Celtic deal to scout around elsewhere with the midfielder heading south for talks with Norwich City.

An on-off-on scenario then developed before Turnbull decided to join Celtic after talks with Neil Lennon and a never-viewed interview with Celtic TV.

Unfortunately, a medical highlighted a knee issue which required surgery with Celtic and Motherwell unable to renegotiate a new deal.

With his contract running out in June 2021 there is certain to be speculation over a move this summer if the 20-year-old proves his match fitness over the coming months.
