Image for Gerrard confirms that Morelos is missing due to disciplinary issues

Alfredo Morelos has been left out of Steven Gerrard’s side to face Hearts due to disciplinary issues.

When the team for Tynecastle was announced the sight of Greg Stewart at centre-forward was the stand out feature.

Morelos missed the midweek match away to Braga due to suspension and was expected to walk back into the side with Flo Kamberi suspended.

Alfredo is not with us today because of a disciplinary issue. He was given permission to go to Colombia from Sunday to Wednesday to deal with a family matter, which we supported and agreed to. He failed to report to training on Thursday, which means he’s missed a lot of the preparation going into this game.

I’ve decided to pick players that have done the full preparation and are desperate to be here and want to get us through to the next round. I don’t think I should say anything more. I’ve explained the situation nice and clearly.

The former HJK Helsinki starlet has scored just one since the turn of the year with a string of incidents dogging him on and off the park.

Last Sunday at St Johnstone Morelos was substituted soon after missing a fairly straightforward chance with Steve Davis taking his place.

In December Gerrard and Dave King said that they would turn down offers of £40m for their top scorer. With seven red cards in 17 months and a disciplinary issue it looks like the Ibrox club would do well to get £4m for Morelos during the summer transfer window.
