How did it get to this stage?
All season we have read the comparisons. Apparently Steven Gerrard has a squad comprising of players likened to Virgil van Dijk, Luca Modric, Yaya Toure and Patrick Vieira!
A decade ago new signings jetted in to the state-of-the-art Murray Park training complex and revealed that they had turned down offers from the best clubs in England, Italy and Spain to be part of the Rangers dream. Some dubious tax schemes also helped entice world stars to Ibrox.

These days newspaper readers have to make do with fanciful comparisons alongside ambitious transfer tales.
If Filip Helander bore any comparison to van Dijk he’d probably still be playing in Serie A rather than training alongside Andy Halliday.
A year ago Glen Kamara moved from Dundee to Ibrox, over the last 12 months the rejected Arsenal starlet has been compared to the legend of Vieira with Juventus keeping tabs.
Over the last week Ianis Hagi has been tipped to become a 100m euro superstar and substituted by Greig Stewart as his side threw away a lead against Kilmarnock.
After all the hype the fall out and recriminations will be spectacular if this season ends trophy-less at Ibrox.
