Celtic may have to overcome one of the most impressive, and unlikely records in European football if they are to make their way into the round of 16 in the Europa League.

Tonight’s opponents, FC Copenhagen haven’t lost more than one goal in their last 28 UEFA matches.

It’s an incredible record which could have been smashed last week in the Parken Stadium with Celtic carving out seven or eight clear cut chances including three in the first 15 minutes for Odsonne Edouard.

Goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson seemed to be in inspired form but looking over recent seasons last week’s display was no one-off.

Latest news before Celtic-FCK. Among other things. that we can expand our European record, where in 28 consecutive matches we have at most one goal in a match.

In this season’s Europa League group matches Malmo twice scored once with Dynamo Kiev sharing two 1-1 draws. Lugano of Switzerland were beaten 1-0 home and away. To reach the group stage Copenhagen beat Riga 3-1 at home then lost 1-0 away.

Last season they reached the Europa League group stage by beating Atalanta on penalties after two 0-0 draws, that followed beating CSKA Sofia 2-1 home and away.

In the group stage they lost 1-0 to Zenit, Bordeaux and Slavia Prague, shared a 1-1 draw at home to Zenit, drew 0-0 away to Slavia and enjoyed a 2-1 win away to Bordeaux.

Last week they looked nothing special defensively but clearly they have very effective ways to defend their goal.

Edouard and Leigh Griffiths are available for selection but it’ll take something pretty special to put more than one goal past the Danes.
