Kris Ajer has turned down plans to extend his contract and is looking to move on in the summer according to his agent.

The 21-year-old has been a key defender for Celtic this season after establishing himself ahead of Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic.

Ajer was the final signing made by Ronny Deila in 2016 and signed a new improved contract in May 2014 ahead of the Double Treble Scottish Cup win over Motherwell.

There will be no shortage of clubs interested in the Norwegian internationalist with his agent Tore Pedersen telling The Sun:

He will not extend his contract with Celtic and will leave this summer. There are several clubs who are interested, but I can’t go into their names. There are many who have followed him for a long period.

There are also clubs who would like to have him, but who cannot afford it. There is generally great interest in Kristoffer.

The timing of this news won’t be welcomed by Celtic but as Peter Lawwell has demonstrated in recent seasons that he is happy to cash in on players regardless of the time left on their contract.

Last August Kieran Tierney was sold to Arsenal for £25m despite being under contract until 2023.
