There was one scene overlooked as William Hill replayed the 2017 Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen- Alan McCrae.

The Cove Rangers blazer spent 26 years working his way through the committee system to become President of the SFA, taking particular pride in the appointment of Alex McLeish as international manager, sealed with a firm handshake.

McRae was appointed as president of the SFA in 2015 with his two year term ‘ending’ with Celtic completing an Invincible Treble but that unique achievement seemed to upset the President of the SFA.

Unfortunately for the man from Cove he was re-elected for another two years as President during which Celtic swept to another six domestic trophies- with McRae at the heart of the trophy ceremonies for the 2018 and 2019 Scottish Cup Finals.

Speaking soon after the cup final win over Aberdeen McRae told The Sun:

Hopefully it won’t happen again next season because we’ve got to have challengers. They know you need to have people challenging. Otherwise it will get very boring and dreary. We definitely need a good, strong Rangers. They are back, but they still have a bit to go.

McRae was replaced by Rod Petrie as President of the SFA in June 2019.
