Jonathan Burns has given his approval to a new art-piece featuring his late Dad, Tommy.

The former Celtic player and manager was very much a product of Glasgow’s east end, growing up in the shadow of Celtic Park before going on to spend most of his working life at the club he loved.

Bhoysart has painted an iconic image of Burns on his knees onto the gable end of a Glasgow tenement to brilliant effect.

The teenage Burns made his Celtic debut in 1975 under Jock Stein but established himself as a key player in Billy McNeill’s great side of the early eighties alongside Murdo MacLeod, Paul McStay, Davie Provan and Frank McGarvey.

When McNeill returned as manager in 1987 Burns played a leading role in the Centenary Double winning side then had one final trophy win in 1989 when Celtic lifted the Scottish Cup.

After returning from Kilmarnock as manager in 1994 he ended a trophy drought by guiding the team to the 1995 Scottish Cup before leading the team to the redeveloped Celtic Park.

Burns managed Celtic for three seasons but returned to the club to work in various roles under Kenny Dalglish, Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan.
