Jorge Cadette believes that Leigh Griffiths should have scored FOUR goals in Celtic’s weekend win over St Mirren.

The striker looked close to top form as he bagged a hat-trick, showing a range of skills from a close range tap-in for the opener through to a well placed low shot from 18 yards to complete his first hat-trick in four years.

Most strikers would be happy with that haul but Cadette wishes that Griffiths had taken the last minute penalty that was tucked away by Callum McGregor.

Penalty taking has been a bit of a problem for Celtic over the last couple of seasons, after seeing successive penalties saved by Allan McGregor on December 29 Ryan Christie stepped down from that task.

McGregor seems a natural for penalty duties but the striking instinct of Cadette would have preferred to see Griffiths hit the net one more time,

The Portuguese striker told The Sun:

Griffiths was the Celtic player who impressed me most against St Mirren. He is a natural goalscorer. He got a hat-trick and the only thing that surprised me was he didn’t grab the ball and take the penalty too!

Callum McGregor took it instead and I expected Griffiths to try and get his fourth goal of the game. Maybe he was happy with the three goals, but as a striker I’d have tried to get another one.

It’s not very often a forward scores four, but Griffiths did his job and he can be a big player against Rangers.

After being reunited with Odsonne Edouard against St Mirren Griffiths seems certain to start Sunday’s derby at Ibrox.
