Danny Murphy has claimed that there is less than a one per cent chance of Steven Gerrard quitting as Ibrox boss.

The former Liverpool team-mates caught up recently for a cosy interview in the Daily Mail as they recalled the title-less years at Anfield and Gerrard’s ambitions in management.

After two full seasons in the business it looks certain that the blueroom will again be bare despite the millions spent on players and wages at Ibrox.

Twice is five weeks Gerrard has been outsmarted by Hearts with similar stories from clashes with Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

Saturday’s Scottish Cup KO was the low-point of two frustrating years for the Anfield icon who admitted that he would have to give his future serious consideration.

Murphy claims that there is no chance of his former team-mate walking away but with a number of financial issues about to hit the club it’s highly unlikely that Gerrard will be handed another transfer war-chest in the summer.

Listening in to Murphy this morning the Daily Record reports:

He told talkSPORT: “I’d be absolutely amazed if he walked, gobsmacked. Not in him, it’s not the person I know. I don’t think there’s any chance of that at all, not even one per cent.

“I’ve read between the lines. He’s really angry and frustrated and he’s taken some responsibility himself regarding what he’s seeing on the pitch isn’t what he wants from his players. Therefore, he’s doubting himself and thinking: ‘Am I getting my message across?’

“In isolation, this one game isn’t a big deal. What you also have to remember, and I know this from playing in numerous games abroad. You’re talking about travel, the physical output of the game then the euphoria of the win.

“It’s a bit like the Lord Mayor’s show, there’s a comedown, it’s very hard to pick yourself up, even though it’s a cup game at Hearts. It’s just human nature. If you go and get a result at the Nou Camp then you’re away at West Brom on the Saturday it’s just not the same, I’m sorry to say.

“Now, I know Braga are not one of the biggest teams in Europe but the same principles apply. The performance is allowed, sometimes. You do have a bad performance after an intense away European game.

“I don’t think that’s the big issue, going out the Cup. It’s more about the inconsistency since coming back from the break. They’ve lost way on Celtic in the league and the performances have dropped.”I think, with the wisdom he’s got around him in people like Gary McAllister, today when they think about where they’ve come as a club in the time that they have it will calm itself down.

Murphy is clearly detached from the feelings at Ibrox if he thinks going out of the Scottish Cup is no big issue. Eight years without a proper trophy isn’t something that Ibrox fans are used to with the spineless display of the players as big a concern as the result at Tynecastle.

Gerrard is scheduled to meet the media tomorrow to preview Wednesday’s home match with Hamilton Accies.
