The Highland League has declared their season over and awarded the 2020/21 title to Brora Rangers.

Like Celtic, Brora are 13 points clear but have six games left to play with their season halted last Friday due to the impact of the Coronavirus.

Brora will now go forward to the end of season SPFL Play-Off should the season be resumed although I the SPFL decide on no relegation they could be in the professional set up when football resumes.

BBC Scotland announced:

The Highland League have brought their season to an early end and awarded the title to leaders Brora Rangers.

Scottish football is currently in shutdown until at least April 30 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The lack of action has created problems for a number of clubs, who are seeking clarity over when, or if, the season will be completed.

The Dudgeon Park side – who had six games still to play – are 13 points clear at the top the table.

At a league management committee meeting in Lossiemouth on Saturday, member clubs opted to end the season now and name Brora Rangers as champions.

Scottish football has set up a Joint Response Group to deal with the suspension of the game caused by the Coronavirus.

Last Tuesday UEFA announced that they hoped that domestic leagues would be concluded by June 30 but that desire seems to be optimistic unless games are played behind closed doors.

One un-named SPFL Premiership club wants the season declared null and void but Celtic chief Peter Lawwell has stated that that isn’t an option.

Awarding Celtic the title of 2020/21 champions seems fairly clear cut but with Hearts four points adrift at the bottom of the table with eight matches left to play ending the season based on the current positions would be hugely controversial.

The Highland League is the first in the UK to decide on how to treat the suspension of the season.
