Alex Rae has been left wondering what impact the decision of the Belgian Pro League will have on the rest of Europe after they proposed that Club Brugge are declared 2019/20 champions without the season being completed.

The former St Mirren and Dundee boss has been one of the noisiest voices demanding that the current SPFL season is declared Null and Void with Celtic on the brink of winning their ninth successive title.

Brugge hold a 15 point lead after 29 rounds of fixtures with the 16 team Jupiler Pro-League about to split in two after each team has played 30 matches.

Yesterday UEFA put back their expected date for domestic leagues to be completed but rather than deal with a three or four month break then finishing the 2019/20 season the Belgian’s will be ready to start the 2020/21 season.

There has been no clear instructions from the SPFL on how they will deal with the resumption of the season but Null and Void has been dismissed as it would open up compensation claims from broadcasters and sponsors with some season ticket holders also likely to put in claims.

In the UK there has been mixed decisions from the non-professional leagues. The Highland League announced that Brora Rangers are the 2019/20 champions but in England, below National League level the season was declared Null and Void.
