Jozo Simunovic is looking to extend his stay at Celtic.
The defender has started just 70 SPFL matches since moving from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 with a series of injuries preventing him from developing as expected.
In January it was claimed that he was out of contract this summer but in a report in today’s Sun they state that his deal runs out in May 2021.
Celtic may have taken up a 12 month option on his contract but with his injury record it’s difficult to make a long term argument for retaining the 25-year-old.
Discussing his situation, he told The Sun:
I’ve had some great times in my football career and many of the best have been at Celtic. I will remember them for all of my life. There was the Invincible season — the second time I did that at a club.
I was at Dinamo Zagreb when they made it ten in a row — so there is a good chance to do that with Celtic as well.
The feeling was amazing when we won our first Treble. Then the second came, and a third, and we were on our way this season again.
There have been so many great times I’ve had here and I want to continue. We need to see the situation with my contract as well. I am happy here and I want to stay, so we will see.

After a knee operation in August Simunovic returned to the Celtic side after the winter break, making 10 appearances with the final one coming in the Europa League tie at home to Copenhagen when he was at fault for the Danes winning goal.
In the current climate all contracts will be getting closely examined with Simunovic unlikely to be offered more than a 12 month extension to his stay at Celtic.
