Chris Sutton has questioned Steven Gerrard’s silence following the departure of Dave King from the company.

Last Friday night the South African based businessman informed PA Sport that we was quitting with a rushed statement appearing on the club website more than two hours later.

Since then there has been nothing out of Ibrox. No gushing tributes to the man that many fans believe saved the club with some wanting a statue in King’s honour outside of Ibrox.

Gerrard hasn’t muttered a word, no thanks, no best wishes, not a word for his outgoing chairman.

Just under two years ago King and star finder Mark Allen turned to Gerrard to stop 9-in-a-row.

The Liverpool legend is now left to build relationships with transfer guru Ross Wilson with Douglas Park left to make ends meet and find the funds to bring in new signings to join Ryan Kent, Filip Helander, Jordan Jones and Connor Goldson.

Covering Sutton’s interview on BT Sport last night The Sun reports:

It wasn’t a time for Dave King to socially distance himself from the club. Rangers Football Club need leadership at this moment in these uncertain times.

And I suppose Dave King leaving begs the question: ‘What about Steven Gerrard’s future now as Rangers manager?’

Dave King was the guy who brought Steven Gerrard to the football club. Steven Gerrard trusted Dave King implicitly. So, maybe it’s about time that Steven Gerard came out and made a statement just to calm the waters at Rangers at this moment in time.

Gerrard did find time in his schedule for a Keepie-Uppie challenge from Kevin Thomson.
