UEFA have stepped up their threats to keep all member associations in line over the suspension of football.

During a conference call on Wednesday it was agreed that next season’s Champions League and Europa League qualifiers would be delayed in order to create extra dates for the 2019/20 season to be completed.

On Thursday Belgium broke ranks by announcing that Club Brugge would be declared as champions with the league season stuck at 29 matches.

That action prompted UEFA to send out a letter warning associations that places in the Champions League and Europa League would be at risk if they opted against completing the season.

UEFA’s fiercely protected unity appears to be under threat with President Aleksander Ceferin going into detail about the consequences.

Picking up on an interview in Germany about the Belgian action The Sun reports Ceferin saying:

This is not the right solution. Solidarity is not a one-way street. You cannot ask for help and then just decide for yourself how it should be applied.

That is why I say the Belgians and others who may think of cancelling the season risk their participation in next season’s European cups.
