After a weekend with barely a question asked about the Ibrox agenda Bill Leckie has broken things down to simple terms for Sun readers.

What on earth is in it for ‘Rangers’ fans? Why is the club punching itself in the face?

Any rational person would look at a two point gap stretching to 13 over the course of less than two months and see an obvious trend. Goal difference now stands at 25.

They’d look at spineless domestic displays, losing back-to-back matches to the teams’ bottom of the SPFL.

The suspension offers a great opportunity to concede the SPFL to Celtic without further humiliation. The extremists can kid themselves on that Ryan Jack and James Tavernier were on the verge of turning things around. Next season’s motivation could be painted in red, white and blue letters on the dressing room walls.

Instead the executive of the club is being held to ransom by the attention seekers on social media, screaming about conspiracies that occupy their minds 24/7.

There is hidden meaning in everything. Even the board of the SPFL. Hamilton director Les Gray is a former Rangers season ticket holder, he knows his way around every area of hospitality inside Ibrox, he sits on the SPFL board alongside Stewart Roberson. Apparently they’ve been hatching a cunning plan to deny Gerrard his first ever league title!

Leckie discusses the dual role of Robertson then gets to the heart of the hysteria in his column in The Sun:

How can Robertson be a cog in the machinery one minute then throw a spanner in it the next? Surely he can’t be with the SPFL and also against them.

As for his chairman, Douglas Park, how can he then call for Doncaster to be suspended as chief executive when his own MD is making the job impossible?

For me, the answer’s simple. Rangers are so terrified of upsetting their own supporters that their thought process is paralysed. They’re punching themselves in the face.

There is an elephant in the room, but not the one suggested in yesterday’s Daily Record.

In November the accounts of the Ibrox club warned of a £10m funding deficit for this season, without taking account of the legal cases from Sports Direct and Hummel/Elite.

That deficit should be coming into play about now. Will the April pay-roll be met? Blaming others for the internal failings is an Ibrox tradition, perhaps the SPFL are being set up to fulfil the role given to HMRC in 2012?
