Barry Ferguson has claimed that Ianis Hagi is worth no more than £2m as the alleged transfer of the midfielder is dragged out.

The young Romanian has been the subject of transfer speculation since the season ticket renewal campaign began with the fee reported to be in the region of £4-5m.

Hagi arrived on loan at the end of January just as Steven Gerrard’s title collapse got underway with his surname ensuring the superstar treatment.

On Saturday a Romanian agent claimed that the move had been completed with the Juventus of Scotland but four days later there hasn’t been a sound coming out of Ibrox.

Ferguson’s nephew Lewis has also been linked with a move to Ibrox from Aberdeen with the former Rangers captain sharing his views on PLZ Soccer with The Sun reporting:

I don’t think it (Hagi fee) is going to be anywhere near £5million. I would probably look nearer the £2m or just below that.

He certainly has potential and showed flashes when he was here. He’s still not got that consistency level because he’s only coming up for 21. It was an eye-opener coming over to Glasgow.

You know what it is like to play for Rangers or Celtic. You are under severe pressure and he’s probably never felt that before but I do think he’s certainty got potential but I don’t think it is going to be anywhere near that transfer fee you mentioned.

I think nearer the £2m mark I would take him. There is no doubt about that. In the future I think he could be a big player but he just needs to show it week in, week out.

I am not sure where his best position is. Whether it is on the right, left or just behind the forward. If I was Rangers I would certainly go and take him at the £2m mark.

At the end of June the Ibrox wage bill has been trimmed with the departures of Jon Flanagan, Wes Foderingham, Andy Halliday and Jordan Rossiter.
