Brodie Paterson has signed a new three year contract with Celtic.

The defender turned 19 last week and joins goalkeeper Ryan Mullen in agreeing a new deal as the club looks to bring through the next generation of young prospects.

Paterson has been the regular left-back in the reserve side this season but since the turn of the year theyhave only managed to play two matches: a Glasgow Cup tie against Clyde and a Reserve Cup semi-final against Hibs.

What Scottish football looks like next season is difficult to speculate over but it’s likely that almost all clubs will cut back on squad sizes.

Reserve football looks less likely but there should be greater opportunities for players like Paterson to go out on loan.

In the season just ended Ross Doohan, Conor Hazard, Lee O’Connor, Jonathan Afolabi and Stephen Welsh spent worthwhile time out on loan at Championship clubs.
