Image for Daily Record breaks with tradition as it suspiciously ignores Ibrox good news story

In normal circumstances the Daily Record likes to pride itself in delivering good news about Ibrox to its army of readers.

Whether it has been Super Casino’s, Six Star Hotel’s or Stadium expansion the Glasgow based published has never been shy about rushing to print even if the detail has been as flimsy as reality as the Stadium and its surroundings become more and more detailed.

In the last week plans for a refurbished SuperStore have been given the traditional treatment but one story is clearly being body-swerved. Strangely 160 flats in the club car park has been completely overlooked.

As part of their move into the digital age the Reach Group, owners of the Daily Record, Express, Daily Star, Sunday Mail and others have launched city-based websites such as Glasgow Live and Belfast Live with seven more sites with their own editorial teams launched at the end of 2019.

Under the same stable as the Daily Record, at 19.13 on Wednesday Glasgow Live broke the news:

Plans for a major residential development next to Rangers’ Ibrox Stadium have been unveiled.

It’s proposed part of the Albion Car Park site, at the junction of Broomloan Road and Edmiston Road, be converted into 160 flats across two four-storey buildings.

An online public consultation on the move is seeking feedback on the plans, produced by Merchant Homes in conjunction with Graeme Nicholls Architects.

Strangely the Record hasn’t gone near the story, it’s not been given the off the radar treatment of world-class living accommodation complete with walls, doors, gas, electricity and running water.

As far as we know the Albion Car Park is owned by the club from Ibrox, bought by Founding Father Charles Green soon after his job lot purchase from Duff and Phelps in June 2012.

The much loved car park has been listed as security against loans taken from Close Brothers in 2018 and 2019.

Plans for the 160 flats on the site of the Car Park were first revealed on March 17. With Douglas Park keeping quiet on how the £10m funding gap for this season was acquired there is online speculation that the iconic car park has been sold off to fund Steven Gerrard’s transfer fund and growing wage bill.
