Celtic look set for a £1.3m transfer boost with Genk reported to be keen to sign Eboue Kouassi on a permanent basis.

The midfielder moved on loan to the Belgian side in January, making four appearances before football was suspended.

It seems like Genk have been impressed by those minutes with a permanent move for the 22-year-old under discussion.

Belgian site Nieuwsblad reports:

RC Genk did not explain the purchase option of Thomas Didillon, but it plans to do so with Eboué Kouassi (22). To take over the midfielder from Celtic, that option must be lifted before May 29. It concerns a transfer price of about 1.5 million euros. Kouassi was hired from Celtic in January to accommodate Berge’s departure and Heynen’s injury and he made an impression.

Brendan Rodgers was behind the January 2017 signing of the Ivorian but almost from day one his Celtic career appears to have been jinxed.

Arriving in Glasgow he suffered a bout of malaria, making only fleeting appearances in the second half of the Invincible season.

In July 2017 Celtic paid £4.4m to Manchester City to sign Olivier Ntcham with the Frenchman making an instant impact while Koussi waited on the wings.

The last of his 22 first team appearances for Celtic was in the 2018 Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts at Murrayfield during which he suffered cruciate ligament damage.
