Chris Sutton has urged Neil Lennon to sign up Fraser Forster on a permanent deal this summer- even if it takes his entire transfer budget to seal the deal.

Forster has already signed for Celtic on four separate occasions but Sutton believes that one more deal can secure 10-in-a-row.

Lennon took the keeper on loan twice from Newcastle then made the move permanent in 2012 after Celtic secured the first title of their current run. Within 12 months he was a full internationalist and had his name uttered in hushed tones around the Nou Camp.

Southampton paid £12m for the keeper in the summer of 2014 but a combination of unexpected circumstances brought him back to Glasgow last August with Sutton telling Daily Record readers the importance of another deal.

John Kennedy has revealed he and Neil Lennon are looking to add two or three new faces in the summer.

While it would be good for the team to sign quality players, there is one person who wouldn’t be a new face, but a familiar one that’s a matter of priority. And it belongs to Fraser Forster.

For all the potential wheeling and dealing which could take place over the next couple of months if the transfer window gets up and running, the big keeper is an absolute must. If it takes all of the available transfer budget to get him, then so be it.

We don’t know how the window is going to work and what the effects of the pandemic is going to have on the finances at Parkhead or anywhere else in Scotland.

But if Celtic are to get one deal done, it has to be the permanent capture of Forster.

Forster’s loan from Southampton has now been completed with two years still to run on the contract that he signed as a member of the England international squad in 2017.

Craig Gordon is out of contract next month leaving Scott Bain as the only keeper with top team experience as Celtic prepare for a historic season.
