Davie Provan has highlighted the role played by four former players in Celtic winning 9-in-a-row.

Yesterday Neil Lennon and his squad took the acclaim as they were confirmed as 2019/20 champions based on average points per game.

The current vintage were on course for a vintage season with an average of 2.67 points per game pushing the bar higher than seven of the previous eight title wins.

It is well documented how Lennon’s side over-turned a 15 point gap in 2011, the turnaround from being 3-0 down at Rugby Park in October to clinching the first of the nine with a 6-0 win at the same venue a few months later.

James Forrest and Scott Brown have been there through the entire run of success with some starring roles from a couple of players who were elsewhere when yesterday’s news came through.

Provan won four titles during his playing days before he was forced to retire through injury, in The Sun he highlighted the former Celts who played a major role in securing the nine alongside Brown, Forrest and Callum McGregor.

Others, no longer at the club or in the team shouldn’t be forgotten. Charlie Mulgrew played a huge part for Lennon and Deila during his six years with the Hoops.

Likewise, Mikael Lustig whose level of consistency playing in different positions was remarkable.

Emilio Izaguirre was an inspired signing at just £650,000 and gave the club seven good years.

Kieran Tierney is another who played a big part in Celts getting to nine over four sparkling years with the Hoops.

Under three different managers, countless players have played their part. Yeah, you could question the quality of opposition at times during this period but you can’t question the mentality and consistency of Celts over the last nine years.

With nine in the bag, they’ll now turn their attention to an historic ten. Only a brave man would bet against them.

Celtic will host an online party of Saturday featuring the winning squad, Neil Lennon and special guests.
