Andy Halliday is hoping to resume his career in the MLS!

Perhaps a decade ago an SPFL utility man could hope to enjoy a paid holiday Stateside but the 28-year-old is likely to find an offer from one of the 13 clubs that form the top division.

Lewis Morgan made the move in January to Inter Miami but with squads settled and the season likely to resume in the next month Halliday won’t be bowled over with offers with hundreds of European players having similar ideas.

After five trophyless seasons, the last four spent watching Celtic sweep the boards, it was announced in midweek that time was up for the utility man who started four SPFL games in the season just finished.

Discussing his emotions and next move Halliday told The Athletic:

It was my club I was playing for so it’s never going to feel the same, but I’m trying to look on the bright side. I’m 28 and I’m going into the prime years of my career. Whoever I am going to, I hope I will be a big asset. I think the reason players say that they miss Rangers when they leave is not just the facilities and the fanbase, you enjoy the expectation that you have to be a winner. It’s not even wanting to win, it’s the fear of losing.

I can’t (imagine himself playing for another Scottish team). I don’t mean any other club disrespect by that. I’d 100 per cent be interested in MLS. It’s something that has been growing over the years and there are big names who they’ve attracted but the news is still pretty raw so I’m just trying to keep myself as fit as possible and assess my options.

With little prospect of an offer from the MLS Halliday is likely to be a transfer target of Hearts where he could team up again with Jason Holt who has also been released.

A contract with Hearts and a media gig with BBC Scotland are likely to appeal although Fleetwood Town with Joey Barton in charge are likely to put in an offer.
