Imagine that you are at primary school in Coatbridge as Celtic battle back to win the 2012 SPL title, clinching it by winning 6-0 at Rugby Park.

Fast forward eight years and your name is included in the Roll of Honour for those that played a part, no matter how small in delivering a second 9-in-a-row.

This morning, Stephen Welsh is that bhoy.

In the final match of last season he was a substitute alongside Karamoko Dembele for the final match of the season against Hearts, unlike the winger Welsh had to watch from the bench before being one of the last players to the podium to pick up a medal.

After a stint on loan at Morton in the first half of this season he was recalled by Neil Lennon in January, at Hamilton in February he went straight into the team and played like a veteran.

It was a ropey first half for the Celtic defence, Kris Ajer and Chris Jullien looked uncertain on that plastic pitch, Accies took the lead but fortunately Odsonne Edouard quickly equalised with a brilliant free kick.

Welsh barely put a foot wrong, he’d regularly played on worse plastic surfaces than the pitch at Hamilton.

Pushing for a second goal Neil Lennon held up the 57 board with 14 minutes left to play. Tom Rogic replaced the new bhoy who got off the pitch sharpish realising the importance of every remaining minute.

Three goals later the points were secured. At the final whistle Welsh was back out on the pitch celebrating a vital win. He won’t forget his own role in securing 9-in-a-row, again.
