As the background campaign continues to declare the current season Null & Void Alan Stubbs has a message for the Ibrox cheerleaders.

Since 80% of clubs voted to decide the season based on average points per game the SPFL has found itself under constant attack.

Four weeks ago Douglas Park called for the suspensions of Neil Doncaster and Rod McKenzie with the snipping stepped up in anticipation of the explosive dossier.

Ally McCoist and others have suggested that there should be an asterisk against any title awarded this season but Stubbs recalls when the old Ibrox club played ineligible players with no sanctions from the SPL.

Other clubs had pints docked but with Doncaster at the helm the need to preserve at Old Firm rivalry was always the motivation. Sadly Celtic never raised any complaints despite losing titles to teams full of players enticed to their city rivals with off-shore ‘tax-free’ secret contracts.

It’s a subject that few people are prepared to discuss but in the Daily Record Stubbs hit out:

Rangers should be very careful because if they start saying this campaign should be null and void then what about all the leagues they won when they were later found in court to be bending the rules regarding their tax avoidance?

The difference here is that Celtic have done nothing wrong while Rangers did do something wrong and still kept those titles.

After the evidence came to light the attitude of almost everyone in Scottish football was to move on. In 2017 former SFA Chief Executive Stewart Regan warned against raking over old coals.
