The SPFL has arranged a 4pm Premiership conference call today ahead of declaring the season as over.

There seems to be some anticipation that Celtic’s title success will be announced today but the Daily Record has been given a steer towards next week.

Following an exclusive with Neil Doncaster earlier this week the Record revealed details of Scot Gardiner’s Null and Void campaign which resulted in a 9-1 vote against Gardiner at Tuesday’s EGM.T

Some of the dust has settled since Tuesday’s EGM vote with the clubs that failed to get an independent investigation given time to issue their angry statements.

Neil Doncaster and the SPFL executive have to get on with their jobs with next season now the priority with tentative steps announced yesterday by the Joint Response Group about how football can return.

The final details of the 2019/20 season has still to be completed with the top clubs returning to a Zoom call at 4pm today.

The meeting is unlikely to finish before 5pm which could put the title announcement back over the weekend with the Daily Record reporting:

With some cash strapped clubs increasingly desperate to get their hands on a slice of £7.5million worth of end of season prize money, the SPFL could now be urged to act with urgency.

A source said: “Assuming there are no late changes of heart from the top flight clubs, it’s possible that an official announcement could be made as soon as Friday evening.

“But it’s probably more likely that an agreement will be reached around the table and the final decision to crown Celtic champions and relegate Hearts will be announced by the SPFL early next week.”

Delaying an announcement until Monday will give Celtic time to prepare for the announcement including interviews with Neil Lennon and Scott Brown plus the launch of 9-in-a-row merchandise.
