Alex Rae has revealed that he is hoping to see the capacity of Ibrox raised as the club becomes ‘self-sufficient again’.
Like the ‘Make America Great’ campaign the question has to be asked about the last time that a club from Ibrox was self-sufficient. Companies that fall into that category don’t use disguised remuneration schemes or issue Going Concern warnings.
The former St Mirren and Dundee boss has become a media favourite since Derek Johnstone officially became a club ambassador.
Whatever the issue Rae can be relied on to relay the message. In today’s Daily Record piece he manages to link together the riches of the Castore deal, ground expansion and Champions League football. All delivered without having to take out further loans from current directors!

Rangers are finally moving towards the point where they can be self-sufficient again and it’s great to see the efforts being made off the pitch.
It’s going in the right direction, with the new Castore deal in place, improved merchandising and plans to transform the areas around the ground ahead of the 150th anniversary celebrations in 2022.
I’d love to see the new seats added, either in the corners of the stadium or by lowering the pitch, because there’s certainly a demand as we come out the other side of this pandemic.
It would also boost the turnover of the club and help the manager put even more quality on the pitch, especially as there will be two Champions League spots available to Premiership clubs next summer.
No date has been given for the Castore kit hitting the streets with Marketing chief James Bisgrove admitting that there are still legacy issues from previous retail contracts.
Once wage deferrals are made good the company might be in a position to discuss being self-sufficient.
