Mikey Johnston looks like handing Neil Lennon a significant boost with a return to training on Thursday.

The 20-year-old shared left-wing duties with Moi Elyounoussi until his season was brought to a halt at the end of January with ligament damage.

Lennon was less than pleased when Johnston had to be replaced five minutes after going on as a substitute against St Johnstone in a comfortable 3-0 win.

A few days later the Celtic boss told BBC Scotland:

It will be long term. It was a bad twist. It looks like he has twisted the knee and there is a bit of swelling there and ligament damage.

Johnston’s Instagram post suggests that he is well down the road to recovery with his rehab continuing through Lockdown.

Celtic have got eight weeks to prepare for the opening SPFL fixture of the new season but will be keeping an eye out for news from UEFA.

On June 17 and 18 UEFA will hold a summit to lay out their calendar for the new season which will include the qualifying process for the Champions League.

It looks unlikely that four two-legged qualifying rounds can be hosted throughout the continent with UEFA also having to find a way to conclude their 2019/20 competitions.
