Celtic are reported to have been offered two AC Milan defenders as sweeteners in a deal taking Kris Ajer to the San Siro.

There has been persistent rumours of interest and bids for the Celtic defender but with Jozo Simunovic released at the end of last season the transfer of Ajer at this stage would leave Celtic badly short of options.

Stephen Welsh is in contention but untried while Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed have been used out of position.

If a move for Ajer becomes inevitable Celtic will need to have their own alternatives lined up but wages are bound to be an issue with anyone coming in from Serie A.

Covering claims of AC Milan stepping up their interest in Ajer The Sunday Post reports:

Most intriguingly, sources insist Milan are also ready to offer Celtic a variety of central defensive options to help sweeten the deal and help the Hoops cope with the loss of Ajer.

Among the names being talked about for permanent deals out of the San Siro are Italian Under-21 internationalist Matteo Gabbia (20) and the Argentinian Mateo Musacchio (29).

After eight seasons at Villarreal Musacchio has played 18 Serie A games for AC Milan, Gabbia has started three matches and been used twice as a substitute this season.
