Celtic are trying to arrange a friendly next week against another SPFL Premiership club.

Plans to face Dundalk or Derry City have been abandoned due to quarantine regulations in Ireland.

Celtic do have a match arranged on Sunday against Motherwell which leaves them with a very limited list of options for another pre-season friendly.

Hamilton Accies can be ruled out due to their match on August 2 while a ‘friendly’ with Steven Gerrard’s squad won’t happen for numerous reasons.

That leaves eight potential opponents for a match next week as the Daily Record reports:

Lennon’s players will now take part in a behind closed doors bounce game against Motherwell which had already been scheduled to take place on Sunday, and are trying to arrange another top flight opponents for one final warm-up game next week ahead of the Premiership’s big kick-off against Hamilton on August 2.

The three matches in France gave Neil Lennon’s squad the right balance of gaining fitness with a competitive edge but additional matches are desirable to get players to the levels required for the start of competitive action.

After the opener against Hamilton Celtic have a free midweek before taking on Kilmarnock, St Mirren and Aberdeen over the space of seven days followed quickly by the First Champions League qualifier.
