Liam Burt is reported to be on the move to Barnsley.

The midfielder joined Celtic after his Ibrox deal expired last summer but after unconvincing loan spells at Dumbarton and Alloa it seemed a highly unusual move. In August Celtic announced that he had signed a two year contract.

While Neil Lennon’s midfield is rammed full of options the Celtic boss already had Ewan Henderson, Scott Robertson and Kerr McInroy pushing for the breakthrough. Just before Burt signed the hoops signed Luca Connell from Bolton on a four-year contract.

There was speculation, started by the player, early in the summer that he was looking for a new club, today the Daily Record reports:

Barnsley are leading the chase for former Celtic and Rangers midfielder Liam Burt. Record Sport revealed last month the Scotland Under-21 star was attracting interest from the English Championship after terminating his Hoops contract.

At the age of 21 Burt needs to get serious game time to his name- four years after making his senior debut under Mark Warburton.

The season ahead for players outwith the first team squad looks very uncertain, the SPFL are highly unlikely to have any sort of Reserve League with doubts over the Challenge Cup and Glasgow Cup being played.

Loan deals look like the only way forward for many younger players, with the three lower divisions starting a 27 match league programme in mid-October even that route will only provide restricted playing time.
