Jordan Jones has been told to find a new club after Steven Gerrard told the winger that he won’t be part of his first team plans.

The Ibrox boss signed Jones on a pre-contract agreement in January 2019 with the player opting to celebrate with WATP messages on social media.

It seemed that he would be frozen out of the remainder of his Kilmarnock contract but a pep talk from Stevie Clarke brought him back into the fold and he celebrated by popping the winning goal past Allan McGregor to burst the Winter Break Bubble created by the signings of Jermain Defoe and Steve Davis.

Jones signed a four-year deal last summer but after injuring himself getting red carded against Celtic last September his Ibrox career never recovered.

The Daily Record reports:

The Rangers boss has told the 25-year-old they won’t stand in his way if he can get a move this summer.

Gerrard signed Jones from Kilmarnock on a free transfer last summer but he has struggled to make an impact under him.

Jones has been on the Ibrox fringes since he got sent off for a wild lunge against Celtic back in September, which left him with a serious knee injury.

He came back at the end of the season but struggled for game time and was made available for loan in January, although nobody could agree a deal with the Ibrox giants.

Jones becomes the latest Gerrard signing to be quickly ditched by the Liverpool legend, following in the path of Eros Grezda and Kyle Lafferty who took pay offs to leave the club.

Last summer Jake Hastie, Greg Stewart and Brandon Barker were all handed lucrative contracts.

With three years left on his contract Jones holds all the cards with another pay off likely if he is to move into the market where even Andy Halliday is struggling to get fixed up after the trauma of watching Celtic rattle off successive trophy wins throughout his Ibrox dream.
