The Daily Record has mixed messages on Leigh Griffiths- just as they turn over to becoming the Sunday Mail for a day.

According to Michael Gannon, who was with Celtic in France, the troubled striker is could be ‘unleashed’ against Hibs on Sunday. The report also mentions playing Motherwell on Monday, which was scheduled for Sunday then cancelled.

That will be news to Neil Lennon and Ross Jack, on Sunday Celtic host Ross County followed by Hibs on Monday.

The match against Ross County is likely to feature a B team, effectively the side that started against Lyon with the A side set to play the following day against Hibs.

Tonight, the Daily Record report:

Leigh Griffiths is back in the Celtic fold – and could be unleashed against his old side Hibs on Sunday.

Mail Sport understands the striker trained with the first team squad on Thursday and Friday after being left out of the group that spent two weeks in Loughborough and France.

Griffiths was blasted by boss Neil Lennon for letting his fitness slip during lockdown and warned to shape up if he was to have a future at Parkhead.

But the 29-year-old has rejoined the main side on their return to Lennoxtown and he is now set to get the opportunity to redeem himself ahead of the new Premiership campaign.

So far Odsonne Edouard and Patryk Klimala are the only strikers that have been used in Celtic’s three pre-season matches.

Lennon may want to play them together in one of his friendly fixtures but will also be mindful that he has to keep Edouard in peak fitness for the tasks that are around the corner.

Following the SPFL opener against Hamilton on August 2 Celtic face Kilmarnock, St Mirren and Aberdeen over seven days followed by the first Champions League qualifier on August 18/19.
