Neil Lennon has reveal that Celtic’s finances are ‘in a decent, healthy position’ as the transfer window enters a crucial period.

English clubs are back in pre-season training and starting to get itchy cheque books with the new EPL season less than three weeks away.

That creates greater competition for Celtic as they look to strengthen their squad with the recent successes of Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele confirming the quality of the Celtic squad.

Celtic have already spent the best part of £10m to sign Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas since the window opened with Lennon confident that the funds are in place for more arrivals.

The Celtic boss told The Sun:

If we get into the Champions League then it puts us in an even stronger position to attract players and have more finances available but financially we are in a decent, healthy position at the minute.

Maybe from a footballing view the player might say the Champions League is a big carrot to come here. So it’s important to get Champions League football for so many different reasons and that’s another one to add.

Lockdown in March effectively ended a number of income streams for Celtic with merchandising to celebrate 9-in-a-row greatly reduced.

On the plus side the new deal with Adidas looks to have given retail and merchandise a big boost with hopes that fans can return to Celtic Park in greater numbers starting next month.
