Steven Fletcher has signed a two-year contract with Stoke City- killing off speculation that he was on his way to Celtic.

Neil Lennon name checked the striker at a media conference two weeks ago but didn’t go into the extent of Celtic’s interest.

Fletcher was available as a free agent after his Sheffield Wednesday contract expired with Celtic looking to add further striking options to go alongside Odsonne Edouard.

During the first 20 minutes of tonight’s PLZ show Tam McManus, a close friend of Fletcher said:

He’s sick of getting messed about by Celtic, I expect him to sign for Stoke City over the weekend.

Before the show was completed Stoke announced the signing of Fletcher on a two year contract.

Yesterday Celtic signed Albian Ajeti on a four year contract which would have put Fletcher as third choice at best in Neil Lennon’s plans.

Fletcher was first linked with Celtic in 2009 but they were unable to agree a fee with the striker eventually leaving Easter Road for Burnley with just a short spell at Marseilles during 11 years service in England.
