Toulouse are reportedly close to signing Vakoun Bayo.

At the weekend St Mirren were linked with a loan move for the Celtic striker but reports from France suggest that a permanent move is close to completion. Last summer Celtic signed Chris Jullien from Toulouse.

Bayo has missed Celtic’s pre-season matches due to a hamstring strain but it appears that his 18 month move to Glasgow is almost over.

La Depeche reports:

Toulouse Football Club is probably holding its top striker. According to our information, Jérôme Fougeron is particularly advancing on one profile, that of Vakoun Issouf Bayo. The Ivorian center-forward (2 caps) has been playing for Celtic Glasgow, Scotland, since 2019. Official replacement for Odsonne Edouard, who has exploded since his visit to Toulouse in 2017 (on loan from PSG), Vakoun Issouf Bayo, 23, made 16 appearances for two goals and one assist in his only season with the Greens and Whites.

Bayo was signed in January 2019 from Dunajska Strada soon after it was announced that Leigh Griffiths was taking time out of football.

Oliver Burke was Timo Weah were signed on loan at the same time and got their chance ahead of Bayo.

At the start of last season Bayo seemed to be making progress, nudging ahead of Griffiths as competition to Edouard but the only SPFL goals that he scored were credited as Hearts own goals by the SPFL.

If the move goes through it will heighten speculation that Celtic are close to signing a new striker.
