Neil Lennon has confirmed to Sky Sports that Celtic are in talks with Steven Fletcher.

Last week the Celtic boss name checked the former Sheffield Wednesday striker who is available as a free agent.

Last night the Daily Mail and Daily Record both carried reports about Fletcher being offered a one year contract with conflicting reports emerging during Thursday about the extent of Celtic’s interest.

Just before 4pm today Sky Sports reported:

Neil Lennon has told Sky Sports News that Celtic are considering a move for free agent Steven Fletcher after his departure from Sheffield Wednesday.

The Celtic boss confirmed talks had taken place with the striker’s representatives but was keen to point out Fletcher was just one of a number of options for the Scottish champions.

There are no direct quotes from Lennon but the official SPFL broadcaster will have made contact with the Celtic boss.

Over the last 10 days Celtic have been strongly linked with Albion Ajeti and Ivan Toney but neither striker appears close to signing on for the Scottish champions.

The transfer window remains open until October 5 but on Sunday the first two qualifying rounds of the Champions League will be drawn with progress in that competition vital to Celtic in a season of uncertainty.
