The patience of some Celtic fans struck rock bottom today with a report that the club were in talks to sign Lyle Taylor.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie broke the news on a day dominated by discussions over how strong Celtic’s interest is in Steven Fletcher.
Downie is better known for breaking news from Ibrox but with Neil Lennon clearly looking to bring in a striker a Championship player on a free transfer is bound to be on interest.
At 32-years-old however and with just one season in The Championship on his CV the one time Partick Thistle and Falkirk striker doesn’t seem to be the type to fire Celtic into the group phase of the Champions League.
Scoring 11 goals in 17 Championship matches is a decent return but mindful of his future Taylor opted out of playing post Lockdown to avoid injury as he becomes a free agent.
Celtic’s prospects of signing Albion Ajeti or Ivan Toney don’t seem to be improving but with two months to run in the transfer window many fans aren’t yet ready to drop their expectation levels down to Taylor.
Celtic are in talks with striker Lyle Taylor, who is a free agent after leaving Charlton.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon this afternoon told @SkySportsNews he’s holding talks with Steven Fletcher plus a couple more strikers.
SSN can reveal one of those is Taylor #Celtic— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) August 6, 2020
Taylor was previously on Rangers’ radar but the Ibrox side have signed strikers Kemar Roofe & Cedric Itten already this week.

No disrespect to these lads but I’d like to see Celtic showing a bit more ambition in the transfer market. There’s a disturbing Carlton Cole/Colin Kazim Richards vibe

Mr Downiest do you think Neil@Lennon would tell@you anything because we all@know that you are worth speaking too

Wish Celtic had the same level of ambition in the transfer market as they do on the park domestically. The likes of Lyle Taylor are nowhere near the quality of player we should be attempting to sign this season. #CelticFC

Surely Lyle Taylor and Fletcher are just distractions to keep the real signing targets a secret ?
I’d rather we just kept Bayo than either of they 2— Finn (@finndov) August 6, 2020
