Albian Ajeti could be a Celtic player within 48 hours.

After initially stalling on a season long loan move the intervention of Neil Lennon has convinced the striker that Celtic is looking like a better option than another season on the sidelines at West Ham.

Celtic have been looking for almost two years to find another striking option alongside Odsonne Edouard with Leigh Griffiths fulfilling that role for two months last season.

Vakoun Bayo is close to joining Toulouse on loan while Patryk Klimala is still a ‘work in progress’ with Celtic’s Champions League campaign a week away.

Ajeti’s record at Basel suggests that he could significantly add to Celtic’s striking options with the Daily Record reporting:

Albian Ajeti is heading to Glasgow to seal a deal with Celtic after Neil Lennon sold the West Ham hitman on a switch to Scotland.

The striker is expected imminently to finalise a one-year loan deal with a view to a £5.5m permanent move next summer.

Ajeti spent the last week on holiday in Sardinia considering his future after being told by Hammers boss David Moyes he wasn’t part of his plans for next season.

The 23-year-old Swiss star had cooled on Celts after initial contact – but Lennon stepped in at the end of last week to nudge the deal in the right direction.

Record Sport understands Ajeti had concerns about his game time being limited with Odsonne Edouard the main man up front at Parkhead.

But Lennon wants to lighten the load on the Frenchman as well as having the option of playing two up front at stages of the season.

It is understood there is still work to be done to get the move over the finishing line, but there is optimism he could be on board in the next 48 hours.

Although he only made 10 substitute appearances in the EPL Ajeti was involved in a 12 month season at West Ham with his last action on July 8 against Burnley.

Getting the year long loan completed will be a big lift for Lennon and his squad but any action from the Scottish Government on the back of Boli Bolingoli’s trip to Spain could put the deal on hold.
